Here at AV8 we are passionate about gliding as a great way to experience flight for the first time, learn to fly or sharpen your skills if you already enjoy being airborne. We chose the name AV8 to remind you that it should be your primary focus (Aviate-Navigate-Communicate in that order).
Our Founder and Chief Instructor Catherine Conway was awarded an OAM for services to Gliding in June 2018. Cath is particularly interested in helping young people experience the magic.

Emergency handling skills
We offer tailored air experience flights which can include a visual tour of the wetlands north of Outer Harbour, a trip over the Barossa Valley ridges and some of Adelaide’s reservoirs or even a trip from Parafield to Aldinga, coastal one way and via the hills the other.
A key part of these flights is that YOU get the chance to fly the aircraft.
If you are already learning to fly, we can help with additional training in emergency procedures, stalls and recovery, forced landing training, and unusual attitudes. Being a motorglider, we can also switch the engine off and restart it in flight. Experience landing as a glider (with the engine turned off and the prop featherered). Our training has something to offer anyone - from recreational pilot through to commercial.
Sully credited gliding as a factor handling the emergency and Hudson Landing.
We also offer STEM/Aviation based experiences to schools and other youth groups where a flight is part of a broader experience of the Aviation and Aerospace industry. Experience can be a day at Parafield or a multi-day live-in flight camp (in partnership with and at the home of Adelaide University Gliding Club).
